The victim said he was shot seven times point-blank by a man he knew from the streets. The victim's friend said he sat only feet away from the shooter and also recognized the man. But after cross-examination, the jury had reason to doubt the testimony of the two eyewitnesses. The result was a not guilty verdict for Gilbert Galan.

Police officers have enormous discretion to bring charges. In fact, minor charges in the penal code give them almost unlimited discretion to charge you with a crime. What does it mean to "obstruct, hinder or delay" an officer? Just about anything. It is understandable that being charged with such a crime will make many folks angry. But the decision to represent yourself can be suicidal.
